Questions that come up

Does the timer keep running if I leave the app?

Yes. The time is derived from the moment you began, not counted by something that has to stay awake. Locking the phone, switching apps, or the app being closed by iOS makes no difference to the total.

I forgot to stop a session.

End it and place the layer as usual, then delete the session from the Log — swipe the row. The stone is rebuilt from what is recorded, so it follows immediately.

Why is the bottom of my stone dark?

Older layers carry the ones above them. As hours pile on, a layer compresses and loses light — the newest hour is always full size and full colour on top. Nothing is removed; drag down at the ground line to raise what has sunk below it.

What does premium include?

The pace reading — your exam date turned into the hours this week asks for, and whether you are ahead or behind. iCloud sync across your devices. Unlimited subjects, the seven artifact materials, the four subject palettes and alternate app icons, the depth analytics (when in the day you work, term comparison, past terms), the week-chart widget and the Live Activity. The timer, today's tasks, four subject goals, exam dates and their countdown, the weekly log, the term total, the term report, the backup file and the small widget are free and stay free.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions, or Settings ▸ Manage subscription inside the app. Cancelling leaves everything you recorded exactly where it is.

Restoring a purchase

Settings ▸ Restore purchase, or the RESTORE link on the premium sheet. It asks the App Store what you already own — nothing is charged.

Stacks records the hours you study and turns them into a single stone that grows. Everything it needs to do that lives on your device.

What Stacks stores

• The study sessions you record: start time and duration.
• The subjects you create: their name, colour and target hours.
• Today's tasks: their text and optional time estimate.
• Your settings: term dates, reminder time, sound and haptics preferences, the applied artifact material, and the seed that gives your stone its own fracture.

Where it is stored

On your device, in the app's own storage. A small summary — today's total, the current week, and the shape of your stone — is also written to a shared app group container so the home-screen widgets can draw it. That container is on your device too, and only Stacks and its widgets can read it.

If you turn on iCloud sync — a premium setting, off unless you switch it on — the same records are also kept in your own private iCloud database, so your devices show the same stone. That data sits in your Apple account, not ours: we cannot see it, and Apple's iCloud terms govern it. Turning the setting off leaves the copy already on your device untouched; it simply stops leaving the phone.

What leaves your device

Nothing, unless you turn on iCloud sync — and then only into your own iCloud account.

Stacks has no servers, no accounts and no sign-in of its own. It does not send your sessions, subjects, tasks or settings to us or to anyone else. It contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. It does not track you across other apps or websites.

The one exception is buying a subscription, which is handled entirely by Apple's App Store. Stacks never sees your payment details; it only asks the App Store whether a subscription is active. Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction.

Notifications

The quiet study reminder is off unless you turn it on. If you do, Stacks schedules one local notification at the time you choose. It is scheduled on your device and sent by your device — no notification server is involved.

Deleting your data

Deleting Stacks removes everything it stored on the device, including the widget summary. If you used iCloud sync, that copy is removed from iOS Settings ▸ your name ▸ iCloud ▸ Manage Account Storage. You can export everything to a file first, from Settings ▸ Export a backup.

Children

Stacks is a study timer. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here and the date above will change with it.
